Zepbound Vials to be Available Through Walmart Pharmacies

For the first time ever, patients can walk into a local pharmacy and get the same direct to consumer pricing for Zepbound vials that we fought for during the #ReleaseTheVials campaign.
Not with a coupon. Not with a savings card that expires.
Just real, direct to consumer pricing, through LillyDirect, now available for in-store pickup at nearly 4,600 Walmart pharmacies nationwide.

What This Means
Before Lilly Direct, people living with obesity were trapped between two impossible choices, pay full list price (often over $1,000 a month) or go uninsured and hope for a compounding pharmacy to fill the gap. Lilly’s self pay pricing through LillyDirect was the first real crack in that wall.
Now, with Walmart’s involvement, the wall just fell.
Zepbound single dose vials will start at $349 for the 2.5 mg dose and $499 for all other doses, no insurance required . That means a person with a valid on label prescription can get FDA approved, authentic tirzepatide at their local pharmacy without jumping through prior authorization hoops or paying inflated list prices.
This is a turning point, not just for affordability, but for dignity.
The Human Side of Access
I’ve talked to thousands of people over the past two years who drove hours, begged doctors, or were forced to alternative versions because there was no other way.
#ReleaseTheVials wasn’t just a hashtag, it was a cry for access. It was about safety, transparency, and equity in obesity medicine.
Now, that cry has been heard.
Jennifer Mazur, LillyDirect’s general manager, said this partnership “is designed to reduce that burden by streamlining access to prescribed treatment.” And she’s right. But to me, this is more than streamlined access, it’s validation. It’s proof that patients can move the needle when we unite behind a shared goal .
What Happens Next
By mid November, patients will be able to choose Walmart Pharmacy pickup directly during checkout on LillyDirect, the same pricing, same process, just a more human experience. The great part is, this is likely the beginning of a broader rollout.
If LillyDirect’s trend continues (already fulfilling 35% of new Zepbound prescriptions as of Q2 2025), expect other pharmacies and manufacturers to follow. This is a good thing for local pharmacies, and I hope the mom and pop pharmacies don’t get left in the dust.

If you were part of #ReleaseTheVials, this is your victory, too.
If you’re just learning about this, welcome to the movement that made it happen.
The fight for access rages on. But this is a big deal.
