In sickness and in health…

Let me tell you what “in sickness and in health” really means.

It means a wife driving behind an ambulance, not knowing what is happening with her husband, only that he nearly collapsed in a grocery store.

It means praying over him, speaking truth into the darkness when the diagnosis casts a heavy shadow on their future.

It means washing his feet as he lies stunned in a hospital bed, still reeling from the day’s events.

It means tending to him, feeding him, coaxing down pills and nutrients when he has no appetite or strength to sit up.

It means rearranging the rhythm of their whole family to make space for appointments and recovery.

It means never letting go of his hand, reminding him again and again that God has seen them through before, and His goodness has never failed.

We still don’t know what the exact diagnosis is, or what the future holds, but we know that we have love, and we know that our God is great.
